These little ropes are imported from Greece and are important to the traditional prayer life of the Orthodox Christian. Made from wool (to remind us of the role of Jesus Christ as shepherd of His flock) these ropes are specially knotted. As the person prays, the rope is to be lightly held in the left hand between the thumb and the forefinger. To focus the prayers, the person moves the rope from knot to knot. Traditionally, the ropes are categorized by their number of knots (25, 33, 50, 100).
